Some of Our More Commonly Asked Club (Rep) Volleyball Questions
Hopefully the FAQ's below help to answer some of your questions. But if not, please do not hesitate to Contact Us anytime!
Q: Is a Club team the same as a Rep team? A: Yes, the two words are interchangeable. Certain sports still use the term "Rep Team" whereas the sport of volleyball has moved towards the term “Club Team” to describe their competitive teams. Q: Are there tryouts for the teams? How many teams do you have and how many players are on each team? A: Yes! Tryouts take place over 2-3 weeks in September and we post our tryout schedule during the summer months for the upcoming season. We have one or two teams per age group in each gender and most teams take 10 - 12 players on their roster. Q: How long is the season and how many practices and tournaments do you have? A: The season begins after tryouts are completed in September and runs until April or May of the following year. Teams practice two to three times per week (depending on the age group) and play approximately 8 - 12 tournaments throughout the season. The exact length of the season depends on each teams tournament schedule and whether they decide to attend Nationals, which is the final event of the season. Q: What if my son or daughter plays another sport as well - what’s the time commitment? A: The Club teams at Leaside are quite competitive and we generally like our athletes to be fully committed to their teams. With that said, we do have multi-sport athletes in our Club and we recommend that you speak with the respective coaches regarding your child's specific situation. Q: Where do the teams practice? A: Teams practice at a number of locations throughout mid-town Toronto. Our main practice facilities are Havergal College, The Bishop Strachan School and The York School. We also use Greenwood College and St. Clements School for additional practices and private training. Please see our page, Program Locations for address and entry information. Q: What age category can my son or daughter play for the 2022/23 season? A: In accordance with the OVA Youth Competition Manual, athletes can participate in the age category associated with either the Chronological Age Class or the Extended Age Class per the tables included on our webpage, Athlete Age Categories. |
